Miss Morganton Pageant

August 22, 2021

The Miss Morganton Pageant is open to young ladies, ages 7-24, who reside in North Carolina. The pageant takes place prior to the Historic Morganton Festival in August, the queens are offically crowned at the festival.

The pageant celebrates strong, committed young women who are willing to represent the community as a goodwill ambassador. Queens also become a role model of today while strengthening our City for tomorrow. The Morganton Festival Queens not only work to promote the Morganton Festival throughout the year, but they also spend time working on their personal community service platforms and embracing the spirit of “giving back” to our community. Our Queens are here as ambassadors to the Morganton community. They represent us for one year mentoring their gracious generosity of giving back.

Applications are now available for the 2021 Morganton Festival Pageant, which will be held on Sunday, August 22nd at the Morganton Community House in Downtown Morganton. Applications are due by August 1st and are available here.

Folk Instruments for Kids

Kids K through 4 will enjoy playing these folk instruments, learning about them and taking home a musical experience only gained by 'hands on' as this activity offers. 

Folk Instruments for Kids is a highly structured activity with hands on and sit down sessions. 

Presenter; Mr. Alan Darveaux retired special education teacher, dulcimer builder/player, woodworker, visual artist and band leader in Slight Departure has put together a fascinating approach to involving kids in the lore and lure of folk instruments. Presented in this program are the Hammer Dulcimer, Appalachian Dulcimer, Washtub Bass, Log Drum, shakers and Limber Jacks. Featured is the "Dulcidoor" engaging six kids at a time to play. All who play the "Dulcidoor", young and not so young get to sign it.

Folk Instruments for Kids has been presented at Merlefest, Kentucky Music Week, Burke County Public Libraries- Morganton, Valdese and the Orchard at Altapass, Turtle Island Preserve, Jammin‘ at Hippie Jack‘s. 

MADE Rescue Robot Challenge

September 10-11, 2021

The Historic Morganton Festival, Inc. is excited to announce the dates of the Fall 2021 Morganton Arts Design and Engineering (MADE) Competition. After two successful fall team competitions and one spring individual competition, MADE is coming back to downtown Morganton during the final weekend of theMorganton Festival Weekends: Tradition Upheld, Safely Downscaledon September 10 and 11, 2021. Area Middle and High School students will compete over the two days in the “Rescue Robot Challenge”, an on site engineering and design challenge.

Mary Ervin will lead the performance from the Outreach Center WOW Kids. Learn more about this community program and listen to the kids play!
The WOW program: Activities/programs are taught by community professionals in the fields of art, music, drama, gymnastics, karate, and dance. Every program and activity is designed to help grow confidence, expand horizons, enlighten, achieve goals, and spark hope. The Outreach Center’s WOW Program is for ages 5-18.
